1. Menjangan means "deer"

The island takes its name from the Javan rusa deer, which can often be seen wandering along the beaches and through the forest.

The deer regularly swim between Menjangan Island and mainland Bali in search of fresh water and food, making them some of the island's most surprising residents.

Menjangan Island lies within West Bali National Park, one of Indonesia's oldest protected nature reserves and home to some of Bali's most diverse ecosystems.
