FAQ Visa for Bali & Indonesia
Everything you need to know about visa applications for Bali / Indonesia
-
Yes, most international tourists (adults, children and infants) need a visa to travel to Bali (Indonesia).
Nationalities with visa-free entry (up to 30 days) include:
ASEAN member countries, Hong Kong and Colombia.
Check if you need a visa here:
https://app.visas-indonesia.com/visa-checker
Many travellers choose the e-VOA (electronic Visa on Arrival), which can be applied for online 1-2 weeks before departure via Indonesia’s official immigration website.
Applying in advance allows you to pass through the airport faster upon arrival.
Alternatively, you can apply and pay for a Visa on Arrival (VOA) when you arrive at the airport, but be prepared for longer lines.
Tourist Visa options
You can choose between the following tourist visas:- B1 Visa (30 days) - IDR 500,000 (~30 USD)
- C1 Visa (60 days) - IDR 1,000,000 (~59 USD)
-
e-VOA / electronic Visa On Arrival
This saves time upon arrival and is what we recommend if you want to avoid queues and move quickly through the airport.
Application is done 1- 2 weeks ahead of arrival via the official portal: https://evisa.imigrasi.go.id/
Visa on Arrival (VOA) is completed and purchased upon arrival at the airport in Indonesia. It does not take long, but you can expect longer waiting times at the airport if you arrive during high season.
They cost the same. -
The C1 Visa (formerly known as 211A) is the ideal choice if you plan on staying in Bali for an extended period. Here are the specific rules for extensions in 2026:
Number of extensions
You can extend your C1 visa twice.-
Initial validity: 60 days.
-
1st extension: Grants an additional 60 days.
-
2nd extension: Grants a further 60 days.
-
Total duration: You can stay in Indonesia for up to 180 days (6 months) in total on the same visa.
Important details regarding the C1 Visa-
Single Entry: The C1 is a "Single Entry" visa. This means that if you leave Indonesia (e.g., for a quick trip to Singapore), the visa becomes invalid, and you cannot use any remaining days or extensions.
-
Application Deadline: You should start the extension process approximately 7-14 days before your current visa expires.
-
Biometrics: During the first (and sometimes second) extension, you must appear in person at an immigration office in Bali to have your photo and fingerprints taken.
-
Onshore Applications: In 2026, it is no longer possible to apply for a new C1 visa while you are already in the country ("onshore"). Once your 180 days are up, you must leave the country, after which you can apply for a new one and fly back in.
Prices (Estimated for 2026)-
The Visa itself (60 days): Approx. 1,000,000 - 1,500,000 IDR (if applying online yourself) or more via an agent.
-
Per Extension: Typically between 2,000,000 and 2,800,000 IDR, depending on whether you use an agent and how quickly you need it processed.
Tip: Many travelers choose to use a visa agent in Bali for their extensions. They collect your passport, book your biometrics appointment, and handle the paperwork so you don't have to visit the immigration office 3-4 times per extension. -
-
Many travellers experience fast processing times for the e-VOA, but we recommend applying at least 1-2 weeks before departure to allow time to correct any errors (passport details, uploads, etc.).
You will receive your visa electronically by email once it has been approved.
Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date.
You can apply for the e-VOA here: https://evisa.imigrasi.go.id/
A separate visa must be applied for each person (including adults and children). -
The “All Indonesia Arrival Card” is Indonesia’s integrated digital arrival form and includes:
-
Yes, Bali has a separate tourist tax called the "Bali Tourist Levy", which must be paid online or upon arrival by all visitors entering Bali.
The price is IDR 150,000 per person (both adults and children), approximately 9 USD.
Remember to download the QR code to your phone as an image or print it out.
-
The B1 Visa on Arrival (VOA/e-VOA) is valid for 30 days and can normally be extended once for an additional 30 days, depending on regulations and your situation.
The C1 visa is valid for 60 days and can be extended twice, allowing a total stay of up to 180 days.
If you overstay your Indonesian visa, it can have serious and costly consequences. It is therefore important to arrange your visa extension before the 30 or 60 days expire – ideally 7–10 days before expiry.
The overstay fine is IDR 1,000,000 per day, which must be paid upon departure at the airport.
If you overstay by more than 60 days, it is considered a serious violation and may result in:
- Deportation
- Detention
- Entry ban (blacklisting) for a period of time
The Indonesian immigration system is fully digital, so overstays cannot be avoided or hidden.
