Some experiences are simply unforgettable. This night/morning excursion, featuring a bonfire and breakfast overlooking the sunrise on Bali's east coast, is precisely that.

The adventure begins at midnight when you are picked up from your hotel and driven to the gathering point in eastern Bali, where a 4WD jeep awaits to take you to the crater. 

You will arrive around 4 AM, in time for the sunrise at Batur Volcano's crater

After a briefing, you settle into a 4WD vehicle, which takes about 30-40 minutes to reach the vantage point, Batur Black Sand Point, at approximately 1,400 meters above sea level. In clear weather, you can marvel at the view of Mount Agung, the highest volcano in Bali, and the silhouette of Mount Rinjani in Lombok.

Upon arrival around 5 AM, a bonfire is lit, illuminating the twilight as the sun emerges on the horizon. In this beautiful setting, you enjoy a light picnic breakfast with coffee or tea. As the mist lifts, the sun rises, offering a spectacular view of the caldera, volcano, vegetable fields, and lake. Batur Black Sand Point provides the best view of the Batur caldera and other volcanoes, making it an unforgettable moment.

Batur Volcano is one of the most impressive calderas globally, with a diameter of 10-15 km, several times larger than regular volcanic craters. The Batur crater is nearly 14 x 10 km. Inside the caldera, you find Batur Volcano and a lake. The main cone of the volcano rises 700 meters above the surrounding terrain. In 2012, Batur Global Geopark was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

After enjoying the sunrise, we continue downhill to explore the "Black Lava" sea sand and the black lava on-site. We walk to one of these "lava sand hills," where we have another spectacular view of the crater. The last eruption from Batur Volcano was in 2000, when ash emissions reached a height of 300 meters. Observing this fantastic lava landscape gives a clear idea of the immense forces at play during the 2000 eruption.

We continue in our 4WD to the Hot Spring Water, another viewpoint with a breathtaking view of Batur Lake. Here, there is an opportunity to bathe in the springs while enjoying a refreshment. Our last stop is for lunch at a local restaurant overlooking the great caldera.

From here, we switch to a regular car and drive back to the hotel, where it might be time for a short nap after the day's early adventure.

The tour is specially designed for those who may not be as mobile, thus being driven to the viewpoints instead of hiking.
