Although the trek to the volcano begins in the middle of the night, when you reach the summit at 1,717 meters, the lack of sleep is quickly replaced by a sense of awe and pure happiness as you witness the sun slowly rising on the horizon.

The view from the top of Batur is spectacular, and on a clear day, you can see as far as Mount Rinjani (3746) on the neighboring island of Lombok. As the mist clears, the landscape takes shape, and the trek now goes around the crater, which last erupted in 1994.

After a 45-minute drive, you reach the first viewpoint at approximately 1.000  meters above sea level. Here the journey continues, guided by your experienced trekking guide, to the top of the crate 1,5 hours hike in the dark, illuminated by headlamps and guided by trekking poles. 

At the top, you are greeted by a breathtaking view of the majestic Mount Agung at 3.1 km and the silhouette of Mount Rinjani at 3.7 km, Indonesia highest volcano. You enjoy the sunrise and fascinating cloud formations as the first rays of the sun burn off the dew, lying like a blanket at the bottom of the valley.

A light breakfast is served at the top along with a cup of hot tea before you begin your descent into the valley, approximately 1.000 meters in altitude. A stunning morning trek that demands some determination, undoubtedly creating memories that will last a lifetime.
